Zebra mussels are invasive across many aquatic habitats, outcompeting native species including freshwater mussels. Their spread can severely damage water intakes and other human infrastructures, in addition to damage to the environment. Effective early detection and monitoring tools are urgently to control their population.
To address this issue, Robonotic, in collaboration with DeepSense developed AI models trained on extensive diving surveys and controlled experiments to detect and monitor zebra mussels. With a prediction rate of over 88%, this system supports both early detection and population control by mimicking the role of a natural predator.
